Palace on Wheels – A Journey in Luxury Wonder

Rajasthan Tourism development Corporation in collaboration with Indian Railways started Palace on Wheels on 26 January 1982. The train got this name due to the royal heritage cabins which were once the personal carriages of Indian Maharajas and Viceroy of British India.

Palace on Wheels is one of the ten best Luxurious rail journeys in the world.

This Luxury train comprises of 14 fully airconditioned Deluxe Saloons named after former Rajput states, matching the aesthetics and interiors of the royal past. Each Saloon is equipped with world-class amenities to augment the pleasure of traveling.

These 14 Saloons provide all kinds of Luxury comforts with the space to accommodate 104 passenger berths in double bedded cabins, each with channel music, intercom, attached toilet, running hot and cold water and a shower. Each Saloon has a personal butler to take care of tourist.

To ensure availability of hot and cold beverages rach salon has a mini pantry and a lounge and a place to relax and get together

The legendary train offers various dining options with its two lavish restaurants “The Maharaja” and “The Maharani” with a Rajasthani ambience serving palate tickling Continental, Chinese, Indian and Rajasthani cuisines. The train also have well-stocked bar offering the choicest of spirits of Indian and international brands.

The palace on wheels starts its journey from Safdarjung train station at New Delhi where the guests are given a warm Rajasthani welcome. This journey lasts for seven nights and eight days covering some of the most exotic places in Rajasthan and Agra as under :-

  7. Agra

The rooms and corridors are carpeted, the furniture inlaid and upholstered especially in the luxury train. Blinds drape large windows, which frame views across the desert and the passing dry landscape. At the end of each coach there is a lounge.
